Growth Chamber Details and Recharge Rates

The new recharge rates for FY2026–27 are found below. As previously communicated, recharge rates have been adjusted to ensure the facility remains compliant with UC Davis Self-Supporting Activities requirements. The adjustment reflects actual facility occupancy levels, the restoration of full staffing (2.5 FTE, including a dedicated electrician), and increased investments in addressing long-standing equipment maintenance and repairs. These changes will support improved operational reliability, faster maintenance response times, and continued high-quality service for the research community.

Chamber Descriptions

E7  Reach-In (non-refrigerated only)

Growth height of 25" and 8.2-sq. ft. of growing area. Lighting is 330 mm PAR. Fluorescent lamps and Incandescent bulbs. Temp Range: ambient (approx. 22C, lights off), max. 45 C. Humidity Range: ambient up to 85% lights on, 95% lights off.

TC16  Reach-In

Specifically designed for cell culture and micro propagation research applications. Each chamber has 4 - 4.7 sq. ft. shelves with 72 mm PAR lighting. Fluorescent lamps.

TC30, MTR30  Reach-In

Two tiers of growth area, each is 15-sq. ft. by 21" high. Standard light intensity of 450 mm PAR. Fluorescent lamps and Incandescent bulbs. Temp Range: min. 9C, max. 45C. Humidity Range: ambient up to 85% lights on, 95% lights off. $120.00 per month. MTR30: Similar to a TC30 except higher light intensity 690 mm PAR.

C - TCR - MTPC  Walk-In, usually common shelves

C1120 - C1421 - C1815 - TCR120 - GR48 (modified) - MTPC72/144/432 - MTPS144 - C Rooms: Arabidopsis chambers with Fluorescent and Incandescent lighting. Space will be rented per shelf [3' x 4'] [6 - 1020 Flats]. Photo periods of 16/24 hours, 20/22/23 degrees Celsius, 50/60/65RH, and 100uMols light intensity are available.
 

BDR8  Reach-In

8 sq. ft. of growing area. Fluorescent and Incandescent lights.

PGR15  Reach-In

15 sq. ft. of floor space, 52" high (extended height to 66" available) Lighting combinations: Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium lamps (plus incandescent) produce up to 1,000 mm PAR. Metal Halide and Mercury Vapor lamps (plus incandescent) produce up to 800 mm PAR. Chamber #26 has Fluorescent lamps and Incandescent bulbs (M10Canopy). Chamber #15 has a chemical drier for lower humidity studies. (9) Chambers in CEF A have optional additive CO2 control. Temp Range: min. 9C, max. 45C. Humidity Range: ambient up to 85% lights on, 95% lights off.

PGV36, PGW36  Walk-In

36 sq. ft. of floor space, 72" high. Lighting combinations: MH and HPS lamps (plus incandescent) produce up to 1,000 mm PAR. MH and Mercury Vapor lamps (plus incandescent) produce up to 700 mm PAR. Temp Range: min. 9C, max. 45C. Humidity Range: ambient up to 85%lights on, 95% lights off. Walk-in accessibility. Chamber #8 has the ability to reach (-20 C). (7) Chambers have additive CO2 control.

GR48  Walk-In

Walk-in growth chambers. 63 sq. ft. of growth area. High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide lamps.

Drying Area

12 Shelves, ambient temperature.

Seed Storage Chamber  Walk-In

Constant 7°C and 20% RH. 

Vernalization Chambers  Reach-In

Constant 4°C, low light and no humidity control.
